The Publicist & Marketing Associate is responsible for helping to communicate Artemisia’s programming, mission, and vision to the public– acting as the bridge between the company and the community. They work in partnership with the Executive Artistic Director to develop and implement a marketing strategy, attract and develop audience for Artemisia’s live performances, correspond with local critics and reviewers, and promote the theatre’s work and mission to the broader community.

Primary Duties [Press Relations (50%)/Social Media & Marketing (40%)/Other (10%)]

  • Developing and maintaining press contacts with the expressed purpose of publicizing Artemisia’s live performances, including soliciting reviewers for shows; placing feature articles; and acting as a marketing spokesperson for Artemisia’s mission, goals, programming and its vital role in the Chicago Theatre Community
  • Fostering the development of good relations with other cultural organizations with the purpose of creating partnerships that will result in increased audience and community support for Artemisia.
  • Reporting to the Leadership Coalition at monthly meetings.
  • Writing press releases for all productions, organizing marketing collateral (talent photos, bios, show graphics) and soliciting interviews and media opportunities for Artemisia’s staff, leadership and talent.
  • Purchasing and placing ads in publications and tracking their impact on Artemisia’s ticket sales.
  • Reporting all media coverage to Artemisia’s leadership and staff in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensuring that all branding is consistent, professional and reflective of Artemisia’s mission and artistic identity.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong experience in full funnel marketing and media planning including digital, social, site, direct mail, print, signing, OOH
  • Theatre training and background, with a special focus on marketing live theatre and demonstrated success at audience development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Metrics-driven marketing mind with eye for creativity
  • Strong project management, multitasking, and decision-making skills
  • Budget-management skills and proficiency
  • Strong self-evaluator who is positive, accountable, collaborative, passionate about the theatre’s success and sensitive to the needs of Artemisia’s staff and leadership.

Term: 2024 Season (and ongoing)
Compensation: $6,500/yr
Status: Part-time/Contract (1099)
