Job Overview:

The Company Manager (CM) is responsible for the welfare of the acting companies and provides wider support across all departments at Music Theater Works. Together with the Production Manager, the CM is responsible for the smooth running of the programmatic aspects of Music Theater Works. The role involves working closely with the Producing Artistic Director, Children’s Workshop Manager, the Production Department and Creative Teams for the shows. The CM plays a key role within the Management Team in achieving targets and developing and maintaining standards within the organization. The CM is accountable to the Producing Artistic Director and Managing Director.

Key Responsibilities:

· To provide effective management to all staff under the CM.

· Maintain a regular dialogue with the Producing Artistic Director and keep them in touch with matters concerning the current shows in performance and rehearsal along with the Production Manager.

· Familiarize company members, visiting companies and creative teams with the different Music Theater Works practices including rehearsal expectations.

· Manage all casting and auditions

·  Deal with any contractual or union matters which may arise, in conjunction with the Production Manager and Producing Artistic Director.

· Create, distribute and manage contracts in a timely manner with performing artists

· Coordinate and Track contents and mailings of information packets to incoming artists.

· Ensure the implementation of employment terms for all performing artists in accordance with the relevant agreement.

· Maintain order and discipline within the acting company in accordance with the relevant agreements.

· Take responsibility for managing agreed budgets under your control for productions and maintenance.

· Working with Managing Director to make sure all paychecks are correct and paid at the appropriate time.

· Work with Production Manager to oversee the delivery of services for all MTW productions including the daily setting up and smooth running of rehearsals and performances.

· Manage rental of scripts and scores with MTW Production Manager.

· Dispense and collect copies of all scripts and scores for all MTW productions and workshops.

· Requests perusal copies of scripts and scores as requested.

· Managing any HR needs alongside Production Manager of Artistic leadership.

· Along with Production Management, take responsibility for the management of the theatre’s rehearsal spaces and ensure that they are well prepared and safe environments.

· Source and book rehearsal spaces.

· Oversee the effective and efficient organization of company calls under the relevant agreements.

· Ensure production requirements are met in a timely fashion and work with Production Manager and Stage Manager to make sure all are kept informed of what is required.

· Liaise with the Marketing Department to organize publicity and press calls.

· Liaise with Wardrobe Department to organize wardrobe calls and fittings

· Work with Production Manager to manage scheduling for rehearsal, tech weeks, along with production run.

· Manage Load in of all performers during tech week. IE. Assign and set up dressing rooms and procedures of being in the space.

· To be present for technical and dress rehearsals and previews and press night as required.

· Manage all production related events such as opening night parties, closing parties and food between performances.

· Oversee company communications during the run of current productions when required, including working with Assistant Directors on put in and understudy rehearsals.

· Solicit from company members, community members, apartment managers and rental listings and maintains information on available housing options.

· Arrange travel and housing for company members when they travel for company business.

· Together with the Production Manager, manage a well-organized, clean, efficient and safe working environment in those areas used by stage management and company members.

· To play an active role in the life of Music Theater Works and to work across departments to develop a positive and engaged organizational culture.

· To liaise with other departments to ensure good communication and the smooth running within the organization.

· To undertake any other duties as reasonably required.

· Schedule, book, manage house management along with NSC.

· Respond to requests for information regarding outside events.

· Oversees all areas of Backstage Tours including coordinating tours and training tour guides.

· Manage all posting, management, hiring, and procurement of submissions for all in person and digital casting needs.

Assist in Management of all YouthREACH and CommunityREACH planning and communication

· May serve as Production Manager for outside events including identifying time and space needs, resources, costs, scheduling staff and crews, supervising load-ins, rehearsals and performances.

Assist creation of show program for all productions

Assist in Producing wrap-around programming as appropriate (including post show talk backs, pre-show events, artist conversations etc.)

· Coordinate billing and arranges payments for outside events.

Regular schedule is 3 days a week (Approx. 20 hours at $20) with some flexibility (Some evening and weekend work is required.)  Work will be performed at the MTW offices/rehearsal space in Wilmette, and at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie. A car is not required, but it will help.
