Promethean Theatre Ensemble will be producing The Book of Will by Lauren Gunderson this fall. Book of Will tells the story of Shakespeare’s friends and fellow actors, Henry Condell and John Heminges, as they work to compile and publish his plays after his death. Set in 1619, the play depicts their struggle to preserve Shakespeare’s legacy by gathering his scattered works and creating the First Folio, despite facing challenges like plagiarism and a lack of experience in publishing. The play is a love letter to theater and the power of the printed word, highlighting the importance of friendship and the enduring impact of Shakespeare’s genius.
