Theatre for the Very Young
Kerfuffle is seeking a passionate, experienced, and reliable early childhood teaching artist to develop and lead Saturday morning classes at Lifeline Theatre in the Rogers Park neighborhood. Kerfuffle offers Creative Drama, Creative Movement, Music & Movement, and/or Story-based Drama classes for children between the ages of 2-6.
This position is responsible for planning and teaching, while providing proper guidance and support for each student. It is vital the teaching artist is passionate about working with very young children.
Responsibilities include: Developing and facilitating classes that are developmentally appropriate for very young children. Actively engaging all students throughout class and providing support and constructive feedback. Planning an end-of-session sharing with caregivers. Providing feedback to caregivers as necessary. Active communication with Kerfuffle team members.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years experience working with preschool aged children in an educational, theatre, music and/or dance setting.
- Must be punctual, trustworthy, responsible, organized, and creative
- Able to pass an IL state police and FBI background check
- Knowledge of creative drama, story drama, process drama and other early childhood drama techniques, songs, and dances, or a willingness to learn
- Fun personality with the ability to excite and engage very young children.
- A background in Theatre for Young Audiences or early childhood education preferred
This is a part-time, non-exempt position to start in January 2026. Teaching Artists are needed for Saturday mornings.
About Kerfuffle:
Kerfuffle is an award-winning midwestern theatre and dance company devoted to creating aesthetically and emotionally engaging performances for children ages 0-6 years old. Founded in 2015, Kerfuffle centers young children as major creative partners in the development of new work and shares playful, multi-sensory performances in museums, libraries, parks, and other nontraditional spaces. Children’s imagination is at the center of Kerfuffle’s process. In order to understand what engages, delights, and surprises children, Kerfuffle’s plays are developed through creative drama workshops where young people create stories, characters, and worlds in collaboration with adult artists. Kerfuffle is a registered 501(c)3 organization and is the 2020 recipient of the Zeta Phi Eta-Winifred Ward Outstanding New Children’s Theatre Company Award through the American Alliance for Theatre and Education.
