Playwright Submissions for the 3rd Annual Gloria Bond Clunie Playwright’s Festival

We are excited to open play submissions for the 3rd annual Gloria Bond Clunie Playwright’s Festival at Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre in Evanston, right outside of Chicago, IL. All events will take place at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center (927 Noyes St). The mission of Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre is to present work that centers the Black American experience and explore stories of the African Diaspora. The inclusion and interpretation of this mission is up to the playwright. Playwrights of all races, ethnicities, sizes, religions, sexualities, and genders will be considered. Multiple submissions are accepted, but please complete and submit the form for each individual submission. We are not accepting musicals or solo work at this time. While plays can have undergone some development, we are looking for unproduced and unpublished plays.

This festival will consist of two weekends:
July 10-12th: Play workshopping with directors and actors, mentor meeting, and writing time for playwrights
July 17-19th: Rehearsal with actors and a director, culminating in a public reading on either Saturday or Sunday. Then two short-form one act play readings will take place on Saturday and one full length play reading on Sunday.

Playwrights are required to attend their performance and to take part in the post-show talkback. Writers are not required to attend the other performances, but highly encouraged to. We are building a supportive community of theatre artists. Each one, support one.

Submissions will be accepted January 19th – February 23rd. Selected writers will be notified by by the middle of March of their acceptance. If selected, FJT will have the right of first refusal regarding a full production for 1 year.

Playwrights will receive a stipend of $50. Housing and transportation is not provided.
