JOB TITLE: Graphic Designer

REPORTS TO: Senior Graphic Designer

FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

COMPENSATION RATE: $20.19 per hour

LOCATION: 170 N. Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60601 (Hybrid Eligible)

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Passionate about stewarding the brand of a leader in the industry with a meaningful mission, the Graphic Designer is responsible for conceptualizing and executing captivating design concepts while maintaining visual appearance, usability, and brand continuity. A big-picture thinker with the ability to zoom out and think strategically, you will collaborate with a dynamic team on projects ranging from an eight-show theatre campaign to one-off development events. Work areas may include but are not limited to: print design for advertising, direct mail and flyers, event invitations, environmental signage, digital assets for social media and the web, and photo editing. The ideal candidate possesses awareness of the Goodman brand, is highly collaborative, deadline and detail-oriented in a fast-paced creative environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the Creative Director and creative team members to develop brand-aligned solutions.
  • Interact and collaborate with all departments at the theater, particularly with members of the Communications, Marketing, Development and Education and Engagement teams.
  • The ability to see projects through to completion—from initial concept to finished piece.
  • Work on multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Maintain individual workflow and project schedules.
  • Effectively design within Goodman Theatre brand standards.
  • Work across several media types.
  • Communicate with outside vendors.
  • Occasional attendance at evening events may be expected.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience in art and design, preferably communication design; experience working with clients, vendors and other visual artists a plus.
  • Portfolio of work samples – submissions will not be considered without a portfolio.
  • Excellent visual, oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of hardware and software tools for visual design, specifically the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • A working knowledge of print and digital production.
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS, Wordpress, Basecamp and Canva is a plus.
  • Experience in illustration/photo illustration, photography, animation or video editing is a plus.
