Uptown Music Theater creates musical theater that is inclusive, accessible, and resonant for our diverse community. Uptown’s professional production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, with a 20-piece orchestra, and a cast of 28, will be performed from July 18 – August 2, 2026, in Deerfield, Illinois
Uptown is seeking a proactive, kind, and organized Production Manager for Disney’s The Little Mermaid who is an excellent communicator and problem-solver. The desired candidate will have experience in theater production budgeting, managing volunteers, and working with educational/start-up theater companies.
Location – Hybrid – Remote and at The Performing Arts Center, Deerfield, IL
Time Period – April 12, 2026 – August 2, 2026
Pay – $800 Stipend
Production Manager Description
The Production Manager reports to the Producer of the show. In cooperation with the Technical Director, the Production Manager manages the production’s design and build budget and coordinates and facilitates the design, purchasing, and construction of the production.
April 12 – June 13, (approx. 4 hours per week) – The Production Manager will attend monthly production meetings and pre-production calls. They will help the Technical Director coordinate and communicate with designers. It is the responsibility of the Production Manager to ensure that designs are completed for review and approval by the Technical Director and Director in accordance with the design schedule, and that the proposed materials and equipment expenses fit within the budget. They will find creative ways to cut costs, and collect, review, and organize schedules of proposed design expenses for approval by the Producer. At the request of the Technical Director or Producer, the Production Manager will order equipment and materials, and hire crew.
June 14 – July 4, (approx. 4 hours per week) – The production manager will attend weekly meetings with the Technical Director, and is responsible for communicating each week with the set, props, lighting/projections, and costume/wig construction teams to ensure that all materials and equipment has been ordered and delivered. They will initiate actions to assist the Technical Director so that all design elements of the show are completed before tech week, and will proactively identify issues or obstacles and implement effective solutions.
July 5 – July 19 (approx. 8 hours per week) – The production manager will attend all production meetings, load in, load out, strike, tech week rehearsals (as needed), and two opening weekend performances. The Production Manager will be flexible and available for all necessary consultations and meetings with the Producer, Director, and Technical Director and will take action as needed to manage this project through the end of the production.
Production Schedule
Set Construction – June 15 – July 9 (weeknight evenings)
Tech Week – July 10 – July 17
Opening Weekend – July 18 and 19 (2pm performances)
Strike – August 2 (after 2pm performance)
