About the Production
Seedfolks is a site‑specific theatre piece for all ages that brings Paul Fleischman’s beloved novel to life in Chicago’s community gardens. The story begins with one young girl planting a handful of seeds, an act that inspires her neighbors to transform a vacant lot into a vibrant shared garden.
This Chicago revival builds on a successful earlier iteration that toured community gardens in Phoenix, uniting an intergenerational ensemble and engaging more than 170 community members. Our 2026 production will be created with Chicago artists, shaped by the histories and strengths of local neighborhoods, and presented in partnership with community gardens across the city.
We believe a single seed or act of care can help a community flourish. We invite a stage manager who shares that belief to help us grow this next chapter.
