Seeking a Casting Director for We Interrupt This Program, a special two-night theatrical event written by Bill Odenkirk and featuring Bob Odenkirk and Jill Talley.

Show & Tell Productions is seeking a freelance Casting Director to lead the casting process for a ten-actor Chicago-based comedy ensemble. Casting directors affiliated with established agencies are also encouraged to apply.

We Interrupt This Program is an original one-act comedy by Bill Odenkirk, writer and producer for The Simpsons and Futurama. The production will be presented as a special engagement at the 1,400-seat Virginia Theatre in Champaign, Illinois on October 16-17, 2026. Some principal roles have already been cast. The Casting Director will lead the search for approximately 7-9 remaining ensemble and featured roles from the Chicago theatre community.

This is an opportunity to collaborate directly with an accomplished creative team and help shape a high-profile event featuring nationally recognized performers and writers.

Production is operating under AEA Single Engagement Contract. No more than 3 actors will be Equity (including pre-cast roles). Housing, lodging, and per diem will be provided for cast for Champaign dates.

Job Dates: (flexible)

Auditions: Dates flexible, July/August 2026. We plan for 1) digital headshot/resume submissions, 2) video submissions for general auditions, then 3) in-person, Chicago-based callbacks.

Rehearsals (Chicago) and Tech Rehearsals (Champaign): October 2026

First Rehearsal: October 3
Performances: October 16 and 17

Job Description:

The Casting Director will work closely with the Producers, Director, and Playwright to oversee the casting process from announcement through final offers. The ideal candidate will have strong connections within the Chicago theatre community, excellent organizational skills, and experience identifying comedic performers for stage productions. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing a casting timeline in collaboration with the Producing Team and Director
  • Refining audition notices with the Artistic Team
  • Distributing audition notices throughout the Chicago theatre and comedy communities
  • Managing submissions and presenting qualified candidates to the Artistic Team
  • Coordinating auditions and callbacks with support from the Producing Team.
  • Collaborating with the Director and Playwright throughout the selection process
  • Facilitating role offers and communicating with selected performers
  • Assisting with casting administration and maintaining casting records throughout the process
  • Casting Director is not expected to attend rehearsals

Pay Rate/Range*: 1500 (flat fee); 1/3 upon contract signing, 1/3 at callbacks, 1/3 after casting complete
