This is a list of job expectations for the “Associate Producer” position with Pocket Theatrics. Associate Producers will be Company Members of Pocket Theatrics. We are looking for an Associate Producer to specialize in producing our Inc.ubator program. Inc. is a co production between Pocket and Theatre L’Acadie.
Pocket Theatrics’s goal is to hire one associate producer per relevant program (inc., Direct Address, and Freshly Brewed). Associate Producers will have a foundational knowledge of producing, with a specialization in their specific program.
Each program has its own unique timeline. Each time commitment estimate given is based on when the program is actively running (submission opening through final performance/meeting). This level of commitment is not a consistent weekly expectation.
All Associate Producers must be available for an overnight full company retreat August 7-9th – information shared throughout interview process.
All responsibilities, compensation, and expectations listed are, or have been, performed by current inc. producers. We are working with you throughout this process and will have weekly check ins for project management.
ABOUT INC.UBATOR
Inc. is a new play incubator that pairs 6 early-career Chicago directors with 6 budding Chicago playwrights to develop a new script over a dedicated 3-month process. During the process, the cohort participates in various professional development workshops led in collaboration with Chicago storefront leaders. Inc. culminates in a 2-week festival that is presented live to audiences as well as filmed in Virtual Reality, exploring how to welcome audiences to experience live Chicago theatre from anywhere in the world.
Compensation is $100 per Inc. cycle (right now, once per year), plus access to all of Inc’s professional development resources (updated headshots, website/artistic statement review, etc). This position requires the ability to do thoughtful script evaluation, run workshops, supervise rehearsal rooms, mediate disagreements/conflicts, and conceptualize and execute various production tasks.
Successful Associate Producers are clear communicators, demonstrate good time management skills, and excel in leadership positions. On average, this role requires a weekly time commitment of 4 hrs an inc cycle. We recognize that changing schedules and other conflicting responsibilities may arise, and we will work with the Associate Producer’s schedule and capacity to ensure all parties’ needs are being met.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Lead Producers on pre-submission preparation (reviewing Google Forms, job postings, email templates, and securing venues).
- Attend workshops (1 or 2 times a month for 4 months, full schedule and production calendar shared).
Coordinate Tech Rehearsal and Performance dates with Producers, Actors, Directors, and Dramaturgs in coordination with the venue. - Send out daily calls for Tech Rehearsal and Performance Dates.
- Running 2 Technical Rehearsals
- Follow up with artists to ensure we have payment information, bios, and other essential information for all directors, actors, dramaturgs, and playwrights.
- Act as Production Manager for the Tech and Performances, providing a direct line of communication amongst actors and the cohort
- Maintain a consistent flow of communication, communicating scheduling issues or possible obstacles with the team at least 1 week before any workshop, rehearsal, or performance.
