Overview

Albany Park Theater Project (APTP) seeks to hire a Box Office Coordinator to support a series of work-in-progress showings of PORT OF ENTRY, a new immersive theater performance being created by APTP and Third Rail Projects.  PORT OF ENTRY is an immersive performance about immigrants from around the globe making new homes side-by-side with one another in a single apartment building in Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood. The workshop showings of PORT OF ENTRY will be performed for just 18 audience members per showing by an ensemble of teens at APTP’s home space in one of the most diverse immigrant neighborhoods in the country.

 

Position Summary

The Box Office Coordinator will manage and process advance sales and day of sales and work with the Development Coordinator on member/VIP patron services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

•     Manage advance ticketing through OvationTix (online & call center; no physical box office for advance purchase), which includes entering and updating event details, overseeing ticket availability, holding and releasing house tickets*

•     Provide assistance by phone to VIPs and other patrons with questions or needs that call center cannot fulfill*

•     Process advance purchases by phone for VIPs, groups and patrons who can not complete purchases online or through call center*

•     Provide regular reports on ticket sales and availability to APTP staff and board members*

•     As box office attendant at performances, check audience members in at will call, process transactions for pre-show walk-up purchases, manage walk-up waiting list and purchases off the waiting list

•     As box office attendant at performances, provide the same level of outstanding customer service to monolingual Spanish speakers as to English speakers

•     Troubleshoot problems such as late arrivals, patrons who arrive on the wrong date or with too many people in their party, etc.

•     Manage exchanges, cancellations and wait lists to maximize attendance*

•     Staff concessions and donation table post performance

•     Additional responsibilities as determined by General Manager

 

*These duties may be performed remotely on a schedule mutually agreed-upon by Box Office Coordinator and General Manager.

 

Compensation

The Box Office Coordinator will be paid a weekly rate of $200 for the weeks of 10/28/19 through 11/17/19 (advance ticketing), and a rate of $272/week for each subsequent performance week (7 weeks total from 11/18/19 – 1/25/20, with unpaid time off during dark weeks). This rate will be inclusive of all duties listed above, and may be prorated if Box Office Coordinator misses performances.

 

Requirements

•  Excellent customer service and ability to interface with patrons with comfort and confidence

•  Sufficient proficiency in Spanish to comfortably interface with Spanish-speaking patrons

•  Exceptional attention to detail

•  Strong verbal communication skills by phone and in person

•  Prior experience with box office/ticketing software, or strong database experience and ability to learn new technology quickly

•  Ability to commit to the attached schedule

•  Resume of prior experience in box office and/or customer service in any field

•  Interest in and comfort around people of varying ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds

•  Interest in and comfort working around youth

•  Fast learner comfortable in a fast-paced process
