Position Overview  The Company Manager role offers a highly organized, energetic, self-directed, and collaboration-minded individual the opportunity to support program operations within a company that has broad reach and an established reputation in the theater, youth, community building and social justice sectors.  Reporting to the General Manager, the Company Manager will perform programmatic and administrative duties in alignment with the APTP mission of building a just, equitable and joyful world.

The job duties of the Company Manager include the following:

Facilities & Operations Support

Create and maintain a site that supports the vision and needs of programs, performances, events, workshops and daily workspace utilization by 6 to 50 people daily (a youth ensemble of 35, staff of 6, and production team of 10 or more) and that many call a “second home”

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and functional environment that meets the diverse needs of APTP ensemble members, including:
    • Assessing the resource and item needs of each program space, creating and maintaining a master list of these items and coordinating the ordering, pickup, set up and maintenance of these items as needed; keeping program space stocked
    •  To maintain readiness and cleanliness of space, implement and manage systems for youth, staff and production team to clean and reset spaces after use
  • Work with Production Manager and Stage Manager to create and maintain an inventory of existing production and tech equipment (cables, tools, lighting and sound equipment, cleaning supplies, etc.)
  • Perform ongoing assessment and reconfiguration of stored production equipment in alignment with devising, rehearsal and production schedule
  • Assess current systems and practices for maintaining the site and develop and implement revised or new systems where appropriate; document these systems and train new team members in them

Program & Administrative Support

  • ·         Create and maintain a kitchen inventory that nourishes as many as 50 people per week with groceries, utensils, and cleaning supplies; responsible for restocking inventory items weekly and as needed; plan meals for ensemble and production team during rehearsal and show run
  • ·         Run errands for production team during rehearsal period as needed
  • Manage a budget of more than $20,000 for food and programming supplies
    • Create a spending plan to keep within approved budget
    • Maintain accurate records of spending, report spending to General Manager and Associate Director, and complete regular budget-to-actual reconciliations as determined by the General Manager
    • Collect, organize and manage digital and physical copies of youth forms including fieldtrip permission slips and health forms as needed to assure necessary staff access to information while maintaining confidentiality
  • Keep abreast of the state and needs of APTP administrative, operations, community and development departments

Youth Development

Contribute to APTP’s youth development goals in some or all of the following ways, depending on the skills and qualifications of the Company Manager and the needs of the organization

  • Serve as a resource for students and ensemble members – connect, build community and collaborate with young people related to projects in your key area at APTP
  • Stay in communication with and support the work of the core youth development team (Producing Artistic Director, Associate Director, Resident Director) as related to your department assets and objectives and in alignment with the mission of APTP; refer young people to core youth development team as necessary
  • When needed, collaborate with team members to plan around and respond to the needs of young people in crisis, including mental health and other medical emergencies

Schedule

  • The Company Manager sets up and provides support to most company workshops and rehearsals
  • On days with workshops and rehearsals, the Company Manager will arrive to work prior to the workshop or rehearsal in order to prepare and stock workshop space and will oversee reset of the space at the end of each workshop or rehearsal
  • The Company Manager will be prepared to work evenings and weekends.
  • The Company Manager will be present for all technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and show previews and will partner with the Stage Management team on space reset following each rehearsal and at the closing of shows
  • Company Manager is a .5 FTE (20 hours/week) position, with the potential for additional paid hours during heavy rehearsal and/or performance periods

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position operates primarily in a professional office environment that is not fully accessible.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • This employee is salaried and will sometimes be required to work more than 20 hours a week as necessary to support the shifting needs of the organization.
  • This is a part-time position. Evening and weekend work is regularly required as the schedule is often determined by the shifting needs of the organization.
  • Some travel to off-site locations in the Chicago metro area is required.
  • Workplace is a smoke- and drug-free environment.

The Qualified Candidate

Albany Park Theater Project seeks a responsible and passionate individual who is enthusiastic about contributing to a progressive arts and youth-development organization. They will be relationship-focused, trustworthy, and flexible. They will be goal-oriented and committed to the full mission and vision of APTP, with a past focus on Theater, Youth Development, Community Building and/or Social Justice.

Specific requirements include:

  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments in a timely manner
  • Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently
  • Interest in and comfort working around teens
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve or exceed goals
  • Demonstrated skill and confidence communicating with various stakeholders including ensemble members, parents, school administrators and production teams
  • Ability to complete tasks independently and manage own work objectives on solitary assignments
  • Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), calendaring and screen-sharing/online meeting applications
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • The ability to serve as an articulate, passionate, and visible spokesperson for APTP
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, creative problem solver, and strong collaborator
  • Ability to track spending against a budget and submit accurate and timely expense reports
  • Demonstrated history of working with people from diverse cultures, backgrounds and economic strata
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. without assistance
  • A current driver’s license and clean driving record are required

Compensation

Company Manager is a .5 FTE (half-time) non-exempt position salaried at $20,000 annually. This position is eligible for paid vacation and sick days.
