Overview

The Apollo Theater is one of the most celebrated mid-size commercial theaters in Chicago. Broadway and Off-Broadway shows have enjoyed long runs on its main stage, and midsize companies have enjoyed residencies in the space as well. A huge part of the Apollo’s success is a dedicated staff and good leadership. It is important to the Apollo for productions to have a world class experience while using the space.

The Position:
The Assistant Theater Manager is the right-hand person to the Apollo’s General Manager and shares responsibility for the day- to- day operations of the Apollo Theater. This role is ideal for a candidate who is interested in commercial theater and rental space management. This position manages all event creations and ticketing, staff training and scheduling, inventory of merchandise and concessions, and customer service issues. As part of the responsibility for the day to day operations of the Apollo, the ideal candidate will be expected to perform some basic building maintenance. An understanding of website management and graphic design, as well as Ticketmaster experience as a ticket agent is a plus. The Assistant Theater Manager is a leader at the Apollo. It is expected their communication skills are strong, they are able to solve any issue promptly and courteously, and they have a constant desire to do the best to serve the Apollo’s clients and lead the Apollo staff. A full time job with somewhat flexible hours which include nights and weekends, the Assistant Theater Manager is expected to be available to work during show-time hours multiple times a week. This position reports to the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
 Event and ticketing creation in Ticketmaster
 Selling tickets, running reports, managing ticket inventory in Ticketmaster
 Inventory management on Hottix and Goldstar and other third party ticketing sites
 Trains, supervises and schedules all part-time staff which includes Apollo Box Office, Front of House and Concessions
 Inventory of Merchandise and Concessions
 Communication with groups that support the Apollo like The Saints and the Parking Company
 Updating website and marquee
 Running financial reports and reconciling sales
 Creating MailChimp Marketing Campaigns
 Stepping in for the General Manager when they are out of town
 Additional tasks as they arise from theater tenants
 Ability to do some manual labor i.e moving boxes and climbing stairs and ladders
