Overview

The Aurora Civic Center Authority (ACCA), an innovative organization located on the Fox River in the heart of historic Aurora, Illinois (one hour from downtown Chicago), is seeking Accompanists/Music Directors.  The organization operates three venues: the 6,000-person RiverEdge Park, the 1,843-seat landmark Paramount Theatre, and the 173-seat Copley Theatre.  ACCA produces and presents over 300 performances each year, including star-studded touring productions and a self-produced Broadway Series of musicals, which has amassed over 41,000 series subscribers and has the second-largest musical theatre subscription based in the United States.  ACCA proudly celebrated the grand opening of its new Paramount School of the Arts on June 1, 2019 in the John C. Dunham Aurora Arts Center, right next door to Paramount Theatre in downtown Aurora.

POSITION STATUS & SCHEDULE – Part-time, per class; hours vary and include evenings and weekends and are class dependent

 

COMPENSATION – Paid per class session, varies based on experience and education.

The Paramount School of the Arts will be home to over 90 fall courses teaching all aspects of the performing and visual arts. We are looking for dynamic teachers who can deliver engaging lesson plans and develop positive relationships with students while sharing their passion for the arts. The classes below will be team taught by an accompanist/music director and another theater or music instructor. Please indicate on your application what classes interest you.

 

 

Musical Theater: Classes: Broadway, Here I Come!; Heroes and Villains; Broadway Bound!; Teen Cabaret Company; Adult Cabaret Company

 

Music: Classes: Singing for Actors/Dancers; How to Belt Your Face Off (Safely!); Singer/Songwriter

 

 

Accompanists/Music Directors interested in teaching one or more of our fall courses should look for full descriptions on our website of all classes at www.paramountschool.com Classes are typically held Monday-Friday starting at 4pm and ending by 9:30pm, Saturdays from 9am-4pm. Fall courses begin August 20th. A one-day training seminar is required for all teaching artists.

 

 

In addition to the duties listed above, ACCA expects the following of each employee:  adheres to ACCA’s policies and procedures; works in a safe manner; performs duties as workload necessitates; maintains a positive and respectful attitude; communicates regularly with supervisor about department issues; demonstrates efficient time management and prioritizes workload; demonstrates regular and consistent attendance and punctuality; meets productivity standards; participates in ACCA events as needed or required; and completes other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS and ABILITIES – A teaching certification is not required, though teaching experience is preferred.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS and ABILITIES – Ability to teach singing and music to students as well as accompany singers on the piano with mastery.
