Scenic designer sought for Fall production of “Strange Cargo – The Doom of the Demeter,” a world premiere co-production between Black Button Eyes Productions and City Lit Theater by Chicago playwright Timothy Griffin.
Adapted from Chapter Seven of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, this gothic horror high-seas adventure tells the shocking events aboard the cargo ship transporting Count Dracula’s belongings from Transylvania to England.
Seeking a scenic designer to begin joining initial preproduction discussions by end of May/ early June.
Critical dates:
First rehearsal: On or around Sep 1, 2025
Set build in space to begin: Sep 29, 2025
Tech week to start on or around Saturday October 4, 2025
First preview: Friday October 10, 2025
Official opening: Saturday October 18, 2025
Closing/Strike: Sunday November 23, 2025
Venue is City Lit Theater, a 100-seat black box venue located on the 2nd floor of Edgewater Presbyterian Church, 1020 W Bryn Mawr Ave in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood.
Show team will also include a Technical Director, Scenic Carpenter, and Scenic Painter.
