Blue Man Group’s Chicago production is seeking a Full-Time Carpenter. Under the direction of the Carpentry Supervisor, this position is responsible for attending daytime work calls as established by the Supervisor, including upkeep, repair, maintenance and research regarding scenic, rigging, and props elements. The position will also work in the Props Department, as assigned by the Carpentry Supervisor. Knowledge of carpentry, metal working, general facilities maintenance, and tool usage are essential. The Carpenter is expected to maintain consistent availability and flexibility with scheduling. Though regular schedule is weekday/daytime, there are times when nights/ weekends are required. Candidate must be available to work during the holidays (Thanksgiving through New Year’s). The position will also train on and serve as a back-up for the Deck Crew show-running positions.
The Carpenter is required to walk; reach forward and over-head with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. They must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 85 pounds. This position requires ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, ropes and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. The position is required to pass Rope Access training, once hired.
Carpenter must possess a valid driver’s license and be comfortable driving a truck in the city. This person may be required to drive to/from storage unit, scheduled gigs, etc.
