Early Childhood Music Teacher – Musical Theatre/Performance Background Preferred

Mini Musicians is growing, and we’re building a Teacher Network of talented singers, performers, and teaching artists who can bring our joyful early childhood music programs to preschools, daycares, schools, libraries, community organizations, and other locations throughout Chicagoland.

Rather than hiring only when a specific teaching position becomes available, we’re taking a more proactive approach: finding exceptional performers now, providing them with paid training in the Mini Musicians curriculum and teaching approach, and building a network of teachers we can match with opportunities as new programs develop.

This is an especially great fit for musical theatre performers, singers, actors, musicians, and teaching artists looking to add flexible weekday daytime work to their schedules.

You’ll use your singing, performance skills, ability to connect with an audience, sense of play, and musical ear every time you’re at work…except your audience may be 18 months old and holding an egg shaker!

And yes, it is as fun as it sounds.

No previous early childhood teaching experience is required. Musicality, personality, dependability, and the ability to connect naturally with young children matter much more to us. We provide the curriculum, materials, and paid training you’ll need to become a confident Mini Musicians teacher.

Once trained, there is no lesson planning or curriculum development to take home. We provide the songs, activities, instruments, and class structure so you can focus on learning the material and bringing it to life with the children in front of you.

How the Mini Musicians Teacher Network Works:

Our programs take place at locations throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, primarily on weekday mornings and during the school day.

Teaching opportunities vary by location, schedule, and program needs. Some may be consistent weekly assignments, while others may include shorter-term programs, substitute opportunities, library programs, or additional classes that develop as our partnerships grow.

When a teaching opportunity becomes available, we look first to our network of trained teachers and match assignments based on availability, location, experience, and fit.

Joining the Teacher Network does not guarantee a specific number of teaching hours or an immediate placement. Instead, it gives qualified teachers the opportunity to complete our training and be considered for current and future Mini Musicians teaching assignments throughout Chicagoland.

Starting Pay:

Teaching assignments start at approximately $40/hour, depending on the specific program and class structure.

Required training and designated classroom observations are also paid.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead engaging, high-energy music and movement classes for children ages 4 months–5 years.
• Sing a cappella throughout class using our established curriculum of songs, chants, movement activities, instruments, imaginative play, and more.
• Create a warm, playful environment that engages young children and, depending on the program, their grown-ups or classroom teachers.
• Learn and accurately retain a substantial repertoire of songs, chants, melodies, lyrics, and accompanying movements.
• Use your performance skills to bring songs and activities to life while responding naturally to the children in the room.
• Travel to assigned schools, preschools, libraries, and other program locations throughout your agreed-upon service area.

We’re Looking for Someone Who Has

• A pleasant, accurate and tuneful singing voice and a strong musical ear. Because our classes are voice-led and primarily a cappella, vocal accuracy is essential.
• Vocal, musical theatre, music, acting, education, or other relevant performance experience or training. Vocal training is strongly preferred.
• A playful, expressive, warm, and engaging presence.
• Genuine enjoyment of babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and young children.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to connect comfortably with adults as well as children.
• The ability to learn music quickly and retain it accurately.
• Exceptional reliability and professionalism.
• Weekday daytime availability, particularly during morning and early-afternoon hours.
• Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to teaching assignments within your agreed-upon area.
