Congo Square Theatre Company is an ensemble dedicated to producing transformative work rooted in the African Diaspora. We are a haven for artists of color to challenge and redefine the theatrical canon by amplifying and creating stories that reflect the reach and complexities of Black Culture.

JOB SUMMARY
The Congo Square Theatre Business Manager assists the Executive Director in the oversight and management of CST’s finances, including budget maintenance, payroll, contracts, financial reporting, audits, etc. The Business Manager is also responsible for the oversight of all contracts with vendors, unions, and employees; provides staff support as needed, and directly assists the Executive Director in special projects and tasks. The Business Manager reports directly to the Executive Director.
This is an exempt, part-time contracted position. The office is located at 1016 North Dearborn, Chicago, IL 60610. This position will require approximately 15-20 hours per week, including some weekends and evenings. The Business Manager reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with the staff, and the professional acting ensemble.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Bookkeeping + Financial Management

  • Support Executive Director in the preparation, adherence, and maintenance of organizational budget, financial records, financial reporting, payroll, and contracts management and payments
  • Oversees the execution of all tax documents, including W2’s, 1099s, etc., and works with the auditor to complete organizational annual audits.
  • Manages QuickBooks, NeonPay, and assigned elements of donor database system

Account + Contract Management

  • Supports Executive Director in the maintenance of individual donor accounts, ensuring that all payment info is accurate and up-to-date
  • Creates, manages, and maintains contracts for hired workers per project
  • Supports in the execution and negotiation of union contracts (AEA, SAG-AFTRA, etc.)
  • Oversees and manages organization vendor accounts ensuring all accounts are up-to-date, in compliance, and corresponds with vendors as needed

Staff Training + Development Support

  • Provides support and training to staff members as assigned
  • Serves as staff overseer in the absence of Executive Director, ensuring that all projects and tasks are completed
  • Supports the Executive Director in additional tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should have the following qualifications and characteristics:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Desire to support a culture of transparency, trust, accountability, teamwork, and fulfill the mission of a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
  • Past experience in nonprofits, arts administration, philanthropy, event coordination, financial management, and/or related field(s) is preferred.
  • Experience with contract negotiation, and with the Actor’s Equity Association and/or SAG-AFTRA unions is preferred.
  • Experience with donor management and CRM systems (NeonCRM) knowledge is a plus
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working with professional actors and contractors.
  • Ability to use and manage applicable technology and database tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, to work independently and in a team.
  • Self-motivation and initiative. The ability to thrive in a small, independent entrepreneurial office environment. Resilience under pressure. A sense of humor.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Work Hours: 15-20 hours per week
Compensation: $10,000-$12,000 per year based on experience
