As Chicago’s forum for the exchange of ideas on urban design, the CAC inspires people to participate in the building of vibrant communities and to demand the highest standard in urban design.

The Manager of Web and E-Commerce is responsible for directing, evaluating and growing CAC’s website efforts. These initiatives include, but are not limited to, public websites (architecture.org and OpenHouseChicago.org), e-commerce, digital asset management and digital content development. The position requires a collaborative, strategic and analytical approach and the ability to effectively manage a team of staff, volunteers and vendors.

Key Responsibilities

Project and Team Management

  • Manage and cultivate in-house web team
  • Oversee the day-to-day production and development schedule for all facets of the website including e-commerce, editorial and UX improvements
  • Technical maintenance and content management of CAC’s websites (architecture.org and openhousechicago.org)
  • Manage vendor relationships including web hosting providers, application service providers and design/development partners
  • Lead the scoping and execution of all new public-facing digital projects
  • Collaborate and partner with social media team to maximize overall digital marketing impact
  • Collaborate with all CAC departments to fulfill their digital needs
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures and other documentation related to projects and systems

Strategy and Planning

  • Oversee e-commerce strategies to drive online revenues and audience growth, including being an advocate and main point person for Tessitura on the web.
  • Identify and recommend new opportunities to drive sales, visibility, and efficiencies for the growth of e-Commerce sites, including functionality and design
  • Collaborate with marketing staff to ensure that digital properties support other communications efforts (such as media relations, social media, printed materials, etc.)
  • Evaluate industry trends, innovations and new tools and incorporate them into CAC’s digital planning as appropriate
  • Develop and manage the annual digital communications budget
  • Working with Web Content Specialist, maintain content updates to ensure exhibits, tours, programs and events are posted in a timely manner.
  • Continually work to enhance options and ease of ticket purchase experience
  • Drive sales, conversion rates, and net profit  for all earned-revenue streams through management of promotions, content, and messaging plans via CAC online platforms

Web Design and Development

  • Work with web developer and web content specialist to create a consistent guest journeys across all purchase paths and devices.
  • Responsible for making recommendations for continual site improvements based on analytics, user testing, and general user experience.
  • Oversee the content of on-site digital media boards used for tour and program scheduling and promotions.

Tracking and Reporting

  • Develop and track online business analytics and supporting programs.
  • Develop and maintain SEO strategy for Tours and Retail with the Marketing Department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in new media, technology, marketing, communications or a related field
  • 5+ years working in a leadership capacity within the web sphere
  • Experience working with Tessitura, or a similar CRM software
  • Experience managing staff
  • Proven ability to track multiple initiatives, analyze results and adjust work flows accordingly
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work under deadline while maintaining a great attention to detail
  • Ability to manage and collaborate with outside vendors and design and development partners
  • Demonstrated creative thinker with the ability to see the “big picture”
  • Strong knowledge of and commitment to UX and design best practices
  • Experience overseeing content management systems and web analytics tools such as Google Analytics
  • Experience using project management web tools such as Asana or AirTable a plus
