  • Pay: Monthly, Independent Contractor status $500
  • Marketing Director will reply to emails, text messages and phone calls within a timely manner
  • Attend weekly working meetings with Executive Director, Development Director and Artistic Director (Day of week to be determine once school year begins)
  • Track time and duties on payroll tracker

Job Description

Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble, founded in 2001, is Chicago’s only multidisciplinary arts organization dedicated to social justice and socially conscious work that build community through the arts “one voice, one story, one person at a time.”

As we prepare for our 20th anniversary season we are seeking a self-starter and motivated communicator who can join our team. The candidate must be able to successfully market our organizations performances and arts educational programs with a comprehensive message about the company as a whole.  Candidates must be able to create content for social media, print and written documents, design social media graphic and flyers and programs for events and be able to work with a graphic designer for bigger projects. The candidate must be able to reach, communicate and connect with Chicago’s diverse communities and build new audiences.  Community and audience engagement are two core essential aspects to CDE.  Community engagement happens outside the walls of the performance space while audience engagement happens during performances in the form of talkbacks, social service resources and audience surveys and social media.

Responsibilities 

Marketing-

  • Manage overall ‘Look & Feel’ of CDE Branding Material with Executive Director and Artistic Director
  • Develop & Implement Marketing Calendar
  • Build campaigns per specific production and arts educational programs
  • Create Show Posters with Graphic Designer
  • Blogs, E-Newsletters
  • Create & Develop content for posting on social media
  • Paid Ad Campaigns
  • Press Relations
  • Write Press Release
  • Send and Follow up Release
  • Manage Social Media accounts
  • Update Website (Weebly)
  • Manage Hot Tix, See Chicago Dance, League of Chicago Plays Accounts per production

Community and Audience Engagement 

Community and audience engagement are two core essential aspects to CDE.  Community engagement happens outside the walls of the performance space while audience engagement happens during performances in the form of talkbacks, social service resources and audience surveys.

  • Attend at least one networking event a month on behalf of CDE (League of Chicago Theater, See Chicago Dance, Northside Theater Group or other events that would help promote CDE)
  • Cultivate artists relationships with the community
  • Connect with relevant Social Service Organizations (working with Artistic Director)
  • Education Booth for performances
  • Day of support at performances
  • Panel Discussion

Audience Engagement

  • Use survey and track audience responses

Arts Educational Programming Marketing 

  • Assist and design creative promotions  to attract new schools and community centers
  • Market  programming to schools

General Operations

  • Meet regularly with Executive Director and Development Director
  • Attend Quarterly Board Meetings
  • Assist with Organizing and Coordinating Fundraising Campaigns/ Events and Annual Fundraiser Gala
  • Smaller Ensemble/ Board Events
  • Donor Relations

Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Some formal training and at least 1 year of relevant experience in marketing communications, media, or related fields
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with a professional public demeanor
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel and/or Mac programs, (must have laptop to work off of) email marketing, and social media platforms required. Basic understanding of  video editing software and HTML preferred.
  • Self motivated and creative, able to work well independently and as a team
  • Can meet once a week for a planning meeting with our Executive Director and work from our office at least once a week and other times by themselves at a home office
  • Is connected to email and phone and can regularly check-in and respond to messages.
  • Is comfortable with technology, including having experience with a website content management system.
