Job Title: Theater Manager

Location: On-site with ability to do some tasks remotely

Reports to: Executive Director

Supervises: Volunteers

 

 

Job Duties:

●       Manage the Russ Tutterow Theatre, basement, rehearsal rooms and office space for all Chicago Dramatists needs and productions and assist resident companies and theatre renters with production needs.

●       Provide on-site supervision for all CD events; staff ticket booth and concessions and ensure clean up and lock up.

●       Ensure the theatre and basement spaces are in safe, clean, functional working order and present a professional appearance; identify repair and maintenance needs, research vendors and submit funding and timeline proposals for necessary repairs and upgrades.

●       Ensure reception, concession and office areas are well-organized and well-stocked.

●       Handle all correspondence related to the theatre and associated spaces.

●       Design and print programs, scripts and other materials as needed and maintain and troubleshoot related office equipment.

●       Handle cash transactions and donations and ensure prompt, correct deposits and accounting.

●       Work the light board, sound system and other utilities and/or schedule technical staff as needed.

●       Maintain the Chicago Dramatists Event and Rental Calendar.

●       Oversee Chicago Dramatists rental program including creating and implementing marketing campaign, hosting site visits, and overseeing contracts, scheduling, and rental payments.

●       Attend team meetings, including weekly with Staff and Artistic Directors, and as needed with Marketing and other teams.

●       Coordinate with League of Chicago Theaters for membership renewal, perks, dues and other payments.

●       Research and secure cost-effective facility insurance; coordinate with CD staff and insurance company representatives for timely policy renewals.

●       Coordinate with Landlord and Property Manager to pay rent, schedule repairs and maintenance, and oversee site visits for technicians, janitorial services, etc.

●       Coordinate with CD fundraising committee, members and resident companies on annual theatre fundraiser.

 

Expectations:

·       This is a job that requires on site work in the Russ Tutterow Theatre, including one more weeknights per month, and 25 plus Saturdays per year, as well as other evenings and weekends as scheduled.

·       Proficiency in Office and CRM Software:  Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite and NEON or comparable CRM software to track and generate information and prepare and submit reports.

·       Attention to Detail: Focused and accurate in completing tasks, maintaining records and ensuring productions achieve excellence.

·       Appreciation of Theatre: Passion for the arts and an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities of working in the arts sector.

·       Commitment to Values:  Uphold CD values at all times and in all situations; build organization’s reputation while representing CD to the public.

·       Eye for Aesthetics: Ensure theatre, lobby, programs and other produced materials are attractive and well-designed.

 

Experience:

·       Five years’ experience managing a theatre or comparable facility

·       Five years’ experience working within an arts, non-profit or comparable organization
