Stage Manager

CLOWNSHOW is seeking a non-equity Stage Manager for Blake Montgomery’s award-winning solo show Charles Dickens Begrudgingly Performs ‘A Christmas Carol’ Again. The production will perform at Theater Wit, 1229 W Belmont, Chicago, from Dec 4 to Dec 28, 2025.

Looking for an experienced, professional stage manager who blends the requisite organizational and communication skills with a self-motivated, problem-solving attitude and the ability to meet challenges in a collaborative spirit. There is some looseness in the structure of the piece as it responds to the participation of the audience in performance — the right candidate for the job will be comfortable calling a show that combines a traditional theater aesthetic with an improv/clown ethos.

Time Commitment
Rehearsals: November 2 – November 25, full schedule copied below.
Tech/Dress: December 1-3, afternoon AND evening
Previews: Dec 4–6, 8pm curtain. Afternoons held for possible rehearsal/potentially just a slightly early call instead.
Opening: Sunday, Dec 7, 7pm.
Performance Run: Thursday–Saturday at 8:00 PM, Sunday at 3:00 PM. Christmas Week: No show on Thursday the 25th, added matinee on Sat, Dec 27.
Closing: Sun, Dec 28.

About Dickens Begrudgingly…
First created and performed at The Building Stage in 2011, a revised Building Stage production won a Jeff Award for Solo Performance in 2012. Blake Montgomery brought his joyfully unique take on Dickens back in 2024 with a new production company, CLOWNSHOW, performing at The Den Theatre. 2025 features a newly revised production, directed (for the first time) by Jonathan Berry, and performing at Theater Wit.
