Court Theatre, a department of the University of Chicago, is seeking a Floor Manager for its upcoming production of OEDIPUS REX. Dates of employment are October 22, 2019 – December 15, 2019. The position is paid on a weekly basis at the rate of $16/hour ($24 for hours over 40 within a calendar week).
This position is an integral part of the stage management team. The Floor Manager serves as deck captain backstage and, with the oversight of the Equity ASM, manages all scene shifts, presetting and running of props, and assists with costume changes and special effects as necessary. Maintains a clean, orderly, safe, and professional workspace in all backstage areas during production runs, and oversees procurement of all perishables. Serves as second assistant stage manager during rehearsal weeks.
Candidates should have a college degree or equivalent professional experience, a working knowledge of backstage theatre, and a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in stage management or production. This is a physically demanding job that requires night and weekend hours. The Floor Manager has the option of accruing EMC points for the production.
First Day on Contract: October 22 (in rehearsals)
Tech Begins: November 1
First Preview: November 7
Regular Run: November 16-December 8
Possible Extension: December 9-15 (determined by Nov 22)
Performance weeks are Wednesday – Sunday, with matinees on Wednesdays (10am), Saturdays (2pm), and Sundays (2pm). Additional matinees may be added on Thursdays (10am) during the regular run.
