Designing August

Seeking Chicago Teaching Assistants for Designing August, part of the August Wilson New Voices competition.

Lead Teaching Artist will work with a Teaching Assistant (as well as a classroom teacher) in Chicago high schools to explore August Wilson and theatre design. Students will be creating design projects based on their choice of text from the August Wilson Monologue Compendium and submitting them to the city-wide (and then nation-wide) competition.

Key Dates (all in-person):
Teaching Artist Training (required): November 18th, 9am-5pm 

Residency Dates (exact dates flexible, based on schedules): December 4, 2023– February 8, 2024

Teaching Assistants will be in each classroom 2x/week, for a total of 12 sessions. We plan to work with 8 different classrooms, as well as a Saturday program at the Goodman. We are looking to hire multiple Design Lead Teaching Artists and Assistants. 2023/24 DesignTeaching Assistants will be eligible to apply to be a 2024/25 Lead Teaching Artist.

Pay Rate/Range*: Lead Teaching Artist: $50/class session; Teaching Assistant: $25/class session (typically 45-50 min); $15/hr for training sessions and scheduled administrative meetings.
