Overview

Golden Ticket Productions is seeking a Scenic Designer for our upcoming musical, “Mamma Mia!” in August 2018. Performances are located in Palatine, IL.

The Scenic Designer fulfills the director’s vision of the production through an exciting, safe, and visually interesting performance space for the show. They generate a floor plan, front and rear elevations, renderings/models, and collaborate with the technical director to produce the final set.

Responsibilities

Work with the production team to understand the artistic vision for the production under the leadership of the Director, and attend all production meetings.
Recommend all physical settings, furnishings, wall coverings, and floor coverings for each scene. Research architectural styles and previous sets for inspiration.
Provide estimations on how much set will cost to build. Work with the Technical Director and Production Manager to monitor expenses and insure that each production stays within budget.
Prepare all scenic documents including but not limited to: set concept, set drawings, scenic breakdown, and design presentations.
Work with the Properties Master to design and furnish the necessary working drawings and research for all hand props, furniture and other incidentals of any nature
Meet all deadlines for the design, including presentation of design concepts and other pertinent production dates.
May assist Technical Director with set construction and painting, as well as be present for the load-in process. Ensure that all tools and equipment are used in a safe manner.
Work with the Director and Choreographer to choreograph scene changes.  Analyze stage entrances and exits to ensure set is situated properly.
Attend all technical rehearsals as needed.
Attend strike. Following strike, return all borrowed items in original condition.

Skills/Requirements

Completed or in-progress vocational training in scenic design, construction, technical direction, or related field; hands-on experience will also be considered
Management and coordination skills with proven ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines
Excellent written and spoken communication skills
Ambitious, “can-do” attitude with an entrepreneurial orientation
Ability to think creatively to overcome challenges, with limited resources

LOAD-IN: Tentatively Monday, August 12 (Daytime)

TECH WEEK: Monday, August 12 – Thursday, August 15 (Evenings)
