JOB TITLE: Electrician/Light Board Operator
REPORTS TO: Lighting Supervisor
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
LOCATION: 170. N Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60601

The Goodman Theatre seeks an experienced Electrician/Light Board Operator for the Owen Theatre. This individual will program and operate the lighting console for productions and events in the Owen Theatre and work as an electrician during changeovers in the Owen (and sometimes in the Albert when the schedule allows). An ideal candidate will be well organized, punctual, professional, and work well as a member of a team.


  • Work hang and focus calls as assigned.
  • Program the lighting console during tech rehearsals, working to effectively implement the Lighting
  • Designer’s vision in an efficient and calm manner.
  • Run lighting console for productions in the Owen, maintaining the show through closing.
  • Additional work as assigned


  • 4 years of professional theatrical lighting experience
  • Proficiency in programming ETC EOS Family consoles
  • Working knowledge of lighting networks, wireless dimming, troubleshooting modern and legacy lighting equipment
  • Ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 lbs. and be comfortable working at heights including catwalks, ladders, and Genie Lifts
  • Working knowledge of backstage procedures and performance etiquette
  • Able to work collaboratively as a team member and maintain a positive, supportive attitude in high pressure situations

This position is covered by our collective bargaining agreement with IATSE, Local 2. Goodman Theatre offers a benefits package including health, dental, and 401K with this position.
