JOB TITLE: Wardrobe Supervisor
REPORTS TO: Costume Shop Manager
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
COMPENSATION RATE: $32.79/hour (currently in negotiations with IATSE Local 769)
LOCATION: 170. N Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60601
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Goodman Theatre seeks a Wardrobe Supervisor to oversee the running of wardrobe for Goodman Theatre shows and projects including the maintenance of all costume elements. This role will work in collaboration with the Costume Shop Manager to plan and execute procedures for the efficient and safe running of all Goodman shows and projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan the wardrobe backstage space and tracking from the documentation provided, including but not limited to: Planning quick changes, making crew assignments and arranging for quick change spaces as well as backstage costume storage
- In collaboration with the Costume Shop, the Wardrobe Supervisor will participate in maintaining and developing costume documentation including laundry/dry cleaning lists and archival information
- Supervise and train wardrobe crew including covers, covers’ tracks, and the time to learn a covers’ track
- Establish the following throughout the tech and preview process: tracking, timing, actors’ dressing needs, executing tracks– where necessary
- Ensure, with the support of the crew, that the look of the show and condition of each costume element are maintained throughout the run as set at opening.
- In collaboration with the Costume Shop, plan and execute the strike and storage of costumes
- Responsible for setting appropriate wardrobe calls in coordination with the Costume Shop Manager, Production Manager, and Stage Manager
- Coordinate the schedule, space and equipment needs for both theatres
- Participate in maintaining wardrobe spaces, storage spaces, supplies and equipment
- Provide a safe, healthy and clean working environment
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- 3-5 years professional wardrobe experience
- Experience supervising and actively leading a wardrobe crew
- Sewing skills and experience needed for routine or emergency repairs
- Strong knowledge of backstage theatrical practices required.
- Must be collaborative, punctual, detail oriented, well organized and maintain a positive attitude.
- Able to work under pressure and respond efficiently to frequent priority changes.
- Must be available in the evenings and on weekends as rehearsal and performance schedules require.
