JOB TITLE: Literary and Dramaturgy Intern

REPORTS TO: Literary Manager and Dramaturg

FLSA Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

INTERNSHIP DATES: July 2024-July 2025

COMPENSATION RATE: $16/hour

LOCATION: 170. N Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60601

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Literary and Dramaturgy Intern primarily assists with literary management (tracking, evaluating, and responding to script submissions), dramaturgy, and New Stages programs, in addition to providing administrative support to the Literary Manager and Dramaturg and Director of New Work,

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the solicitation, cataloging and evaluation of script submissions, as well as with correspondence to playwrights, agents, theaters and play development programs.
  • Conduct research for plays in production and under consideration, as well as for articles and program notes.
  • Serve as a production assistant for readings.
  • Assist with the smooth operation of New Stages programs.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.
  • Assist with special event planning, logistics, and execution.
  • Attend artistic staff meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent critical reading, research, writing and proof-reading skills are essential.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary theater, theater history and playwriting.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in dramaturgy, literary management, playwriting, directing, and/or producing.
  • Must have excellent people skills, be a self-starter, and able to work independently.
  • Model behavior and values consistent with Goodman’s Community Agreements and furthering Goodman’s IDEAA (inclusion, diversity, equity, anti-racism and access) goals.
