Position Summary
The Marketing Manager manages the day-to-day duties of Lookingglass’ marketing initiatives. They are the lead content creator and strategist, coordinator of direct email marketing efforts, ad trafficker, PR and events assistant, and they provide administrative support as needed. They perform these duties with a high level of accuracy and efficiency. The Marketing Manager is creative, inspired, highly collaborative, extremely organized, and excited about working on a variety of projects each day. They are innovative and a critical thinker. This position is hybrid with a required 3 days in the office at 190 E Delaware Pl in Chicago.
Theatre Overview
As one of the country’s largest ensemble theatres dedicated to the creation of new work, Lookingglass Theatre Company seeks to redefine the theatrical experience and to make theatre more exhilarating, inspirational, and accessible to all. Founded in 1988 by a group of Northwestern University theatre graduates, Lookingglass moved into its permanent home in the historic Water Tower Water Works on Chicago’s Michigan Avenue in 2003. Now about to enter its 39th Season, the Company is a respected source for story-centered theatrical work that is evocative, physical, and visually rich.
With a roster of 33 Ensemble Members, Lookingglass productions are centered on ensemble with training in theatre, dance, music, and circus arts. Through its powerful, original theatre, the Company’s goal is to fire the imagination with love, to celebrate the human capacity to taste and smell, weep and laugh, create and destroy, and wake up where we first fell—changed, charged, and empowered.
Primary Duties and General Responsibilities
• Manage daily administrative tasks to ensure the Marketing department runs smoothly
• Work closely with the Interim Director of Marketing on the strategy and implementation of Lookingglass’ marketing initiatives
• Maintain working knowledge of the theatre’s CRM database and collaborate cross-departmentally with colleagues on thoughtful audience segmentation and targeting
•Plan, organize, and execute communications events including press openings, season kick-off, and membership events. Provide on-site event support of special events
•Manage company-wide communications calendar
•Represent the company at public events as needed
•In collaboration with a graphic designer and other departments, manage show program content, layout, proofing, and distribution
•Collaborate with the Development and Educations Departments to support events, engagement initiatives, and fundraising campaigns Social Media and Website Management
• Design social media strategy including building and maintaining social media presence by creating, publishing, and sharing content across multiple social media channels to build online connections and encourage interaction
•Lead content creator – includes creating meaningful and engaging content (photo, video, motion graphics) across all departments, and in collaboration with artists and creative teams
• Compose and maintain website copy, updates, and content Advertising & Promotions
•Manage email campaigns from start to finish; build patron lists in ticketing system, draft email copy, create layouts, and send emails for optimal open and click-through rates
•Coordinate execution and fulfillment of ad campaigns and all art with advertising partners, including creating engaging content for paid digital campaigns
•Work with freelance designers to produce design assets in support of marketing plans
•Schedule and assist with department photo/video shoots
•Work with Director of Ticketing & Audience Services in maintaining discount codes, offers, and ticket mailings
•Manage direct mail lists and fulfill list trade requests
•Participate in organization-wide anti-racism work and incorporate an anti-racist lens into daily practice. Lookingglass recognizes that it has much to do towards being an anti-racist and a more equitable institution. As an integral department in the organization, the Marketing Department will continue to be a vital part of this ongoing work. This work, by the Board, Ensemble, and staff, is ongoing.
Qualifications
• 2-3 years’ experience in marketing and communications
•Expertise in content creation, including capture and editing and strong knowledge of social media’s best practices
•Distinguished interpersonal and communication skills
•Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and successful project management skills
•Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills
•Familiarity with execution of marketing campaigns
•Intermediate software skills, including Canva, Adobe Pro, and email marketing software
•Knowledge of CRM programs and software
•Attention to detail and accuracy
•Availability to work evenings and weekends as necessary
