REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Annual Giving

STATUS: Full-time, non-exempt

Lyric Opera of Chicago exists to provide a broad, deep and relevant cultural service to the Chicago region and the nation, and to advance the development of the art form of opera.

The Digital Fundraising Associate develops, administers, implements, and analyzes brand appropriate digital solicitation, communication, and stewardship strategies that support and enhance Lyric’s fundraising efforts. The position updates and maintains development office websites; builds, tracks, and monitors digital advertising campaigns; and ensures all development office electronic communications are visually appealing and executed efficiently and accurately as scheduled.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • As a member of Lyric’s Annual Giving team, help develop an overall digital strategy for online, email, social media, and mobile technologies.
  • Serve as a Development’s subject matter expert in digital solicitation and engagement strategies. Stay abreast on digital fundraising best practices and tactics and continually seek to improve the user experience.
  • Coordinate Development’s internal and external digital advertising campaigns across technology platforms including content creation, scheduling, calendaring, as well as project set-up, execution, and analysis.
  • Manage Development’s web presence including designing, creating, updating, proofing, and maintaining custom landing, donation, and event pages using Lyric’s content management programs. Recommend and help implement website improvements that enhance the user experience as technology evolves.
  • Act as a troubleshooter and problem-solver for digital issues including platform capabilities, technology integrations, automation issues, and scheduling conflicts.
  • Train and educate existing Development staff on how to best use digital platforms and on-board new employees to Lyric’s technology.
  • Work with various Development teams to identify and schedule specific constituent and donor engagement opportunities via email and social media and ensure information loaded into Lyric’s donor portal is accurate and up to date.
  • Produce digital content that effectively communicates the need for charitable giving through online, email, social media, and mobile technologies.
  • Work with IT to create custom email automations with special attention to personalization. Define the scope and expected outcomes of each project.
  • Produce timely and informative reports on digital advertising campaign performance to help strengthen solicitation and donor relations efforts.
  • Perform multivariate (A/B C) tests on digital advertising campaigns and analyze their results with the goal of identifying the most effective communication tactics with donors and prospects.
  • Act as Development’s liaison to the Digital Marketing team; coordinate with the Digital Marketing team on project calendaring, audience targeting, website development, digital advertising, and social platform content creation.
  • Stay updated with industry standards and best practices.
  • Assist with Lyric events as needed throughout the season.
  • Other duties as assigned. As the business evolves, so may this role. Specific duties may change as Lyric’s leadership identifies the need at any time.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years professional work experience in digital communication, marketing, web development/design, project management, direct response, graphic design, electronic media, annual giving, or related area required. Previous experience in non-profits preferred.
  • Proven ability to work and think independently; a detailed-oriented, motivated self-starter who also works well as part of a larger team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and oral/written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of web standards and email marketing best practices including CAN-SPAM laws, HTML, CSS, and responsive email design.
  • Proven experience with website and email campaign platforms; Active Campaign/Prospect2, and epi Server a plus.
  • Experience in using or interest in learning marketing automation platforms, Google analytics, Google Data Studio, and SEO optimization tools.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, and Google applications a plus.
  • Working knowledge of visual storytelling techniques for delivering targeted messages like design composition, color theory, typography, etc.
  • Aptitude for prioritizing and managing simultaneous projects while adhering to deadlines and collaborating with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Knowledge of and passion for opera a plus.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Ability and flexibility to oversee evening or weekend functions, deployments, or performances.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, to handle other office equipment.
