The Metropolis Performing Arts Centre is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the heart of downtown Arlington Heights. It houses a 329-seat theatre space, as well as a full school of performing arts that includes drama, dance, and music lessons. We have a collaborative, fast-paced work environment staffed with professionals who love the arts.

Job Summary:

Metropolis is currently seeking a Beverage Server/Bartender to join the Audience Services team. Our lobby bar is open 30 minutes before each performance, as well as during the intermission of the performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Completion of Basset Certification program and Food Handling Certification program (certifications must be renewed every 3 years)
  • Sell alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to patrons while complying with guidelines learned during the Basset and Food Handling Certification program
  • Demonstrate vigilance in checking IDs to ensure compliance with local and state laws regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages
  • Maintain the appearance of the service bar
  • Provide superb customer service to all persons who enter the space
  • Communicate and problem-solve with Front of House employees.
  • Complete inventory, reporting, and cash handling, as well as pulling reports from credit card machines. Use the
  • Square point of sale system.
  • Handle stressful situations calmly, rationally, and tactfully
  • Communicate inventory needs with the Audience Services Director and Supervisor
  • Complete thorough cleaning of the bar and bar items following every shift, including mopping as needed
  • Be aware of patron conditions to avoid over-serving
  • Demonstrate PERFORM values of Metropolis and create an inclusive/accessible environment for all
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Audience Services Director, Executive Director, or Artistic Director

Qualifications:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • 1-3 years’ prior bartending experience preferred
  • High School diploma preferred
  • Good communication skills to interact positively with patrons and co-workers
  • Bartenders may need to lift up to 25 pounds during a shift

Schedule:

  • Part-time, flexible scheduling
  • Most performances take place Thursday-Saturday evenings, and Saturday-Sunday afternoons.  There will be some weekday performances at times.
  • Evening and weekend availability, year-round, is necessary. This includes all holidays except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Audience Services staff will rotate holiday shifts-employees are not expected to work every holiday.
  • There will be performances Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve.
