Stage Technical Director/Designer & Facilities Management

Principal Focus – The principal focus of this position is scenic design and construction.  Applicants must have experience in scenic construction; the work is primarily carpentry and rigging.  We seek a candidate with a BFA/MFA in theatre design/technology or a BA with at least two years of practical experience in professional (or advanced academic) theatre.  Duties also include lighting and sound technology/design, so experience in these areas is a plus.

Responsibilities – The primary responsibility will be scenic construction working with the student crew.  Crew hours are typically 3:30 – 6:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 9:00 – 5:00 on Saturday.  There are 5 main stage theatre productions each season along with other school-wide events and productions such as student works, improv, TYA, dance, music concert, rentals, and special events.  Duties include event supervision, auditorium management, scheduling, and facility repair/maintenance. Hours vary.

Facility – Niles North is located at 9800 N Lawler in Skokie, Illinois – located at the Old Orchard exit of the Edens Expressway.  Facilities include two fully equipped theatres: an 800-seat, 40’ proscenium theatre with 33 counterweight line sets; and a black box theatre, 65’ x 65’ with a tension grid over the entire space at a height of 22’, with 6 winch-driven line sets and plenty of black 12” box truss.  Two scene shops are equipped with table saw, panel saw, and cross-cut (“chop”) saw. Niles Township HS is the recipient of the 2007 Kennedy Center Award for excellence in their Fine Arts Department.

Pay Range: Approx $29/hour + benefits.
