PrideArts is looking for an experienced Sound Engineer for their upcoming production of A New Brain by William Finn and James Lapine. Jay Espano, PrideArts Artistic Director, will direct with Robert Ollis serving as Music Director.
By the Tony Award-winning authors of Falsettos, A New Brain is an energetic, sardonic, often comical musical about a composer during a medical emergency. Gordon collapses into his lunch and awakes in the hospital, surrounded by his maritime-enthusiast lover, his mother, a co-worker, the doctor, and the nurses. Reluctantly, he had been composing a song for a children’s television show that features a frog — Mr. Bungee — and the specter of this large green character and the unfinished work haunts him throughout his medical ordeal. What was thought to be a tumor turns out to be something more operable, and Gordon recovers, grateful for a chance to compose the songs he yearns to produce.
Rehearsals begin June 30. Tech rehearsals begin approximately August 6. The show opens on August 25 and closes on September 14. All rehearsals and performances will be in The Hoover-Leppen Theatre at Center on Halsted.
- Primary responsibility will be to run the sound board for the microphones for all dress rehearsals and performances.
- Secondary responsibility will be to maintain 10 ear-set mics/body packs and 2 handheld wireless mics during each dress rehearsal and performance. This includes replacing batteries as needed, handing out mics before the show, running a sound check before every rehearsal/performance, retrieving the mics after the show and properly storing them away each night in a locked cabinet.
