PrideArts is looking for an experienced non-union Stage Manager for their upcoming production of A New Brain by William Finn and James Lapine. Jay Espano, PrideArts Artistic Director, will direct with Robert Ollis serving as Music Director.
By the Tony Award-winning authors of Falsettos, A New Brain is an energetic, sardonic, often comical musical about a composer during a medical emergency. Gordon collapses into his lunch and awakes in the hospital, surrounded by his maritime-enthusiast lover, his mother, a co-worker, the doctor, and the nurses. Reluctantly, he had been composing a song for a children’s television show that features a frog — Mr. Bungee — and the specter of this large green character and the unfinished work haunts him throughout his medical ordeal. What was thought to be a tumor turns out to be something more operable, and Gordon recovers, grateful for a chance to compose the songs he yearns to produce.
Rehearsals begin June 30. Tech rehearsals begin approximately August 6. The show opens on August 25 and closes on September 14. All rehearsals and performances will be in The Hoover-Leppen Theatre at Center on Halsted.
- The SM is expected to attend all rehearsals and performances unless previous arrangements have been made with the director;
- The SM will perform all the “standard” duties of a stage manager including maintaining the rehearsal calendar and the prompt book, sending nightly rehearsal reports, etc;
- The SM will call the show from the booth, located in the back of the house;
- The SM must maintain a legible and accurate run book;
- An ASM will be hired.
