Raue Center School For The Arts (RCSA) is proud to continue its commitment to accessible and inclusive arts programming. We are seeking a skilled and passionate ASL Interpreter for a special performance of The Little Mermaid Jr., helping ensure that all members of our community have the opportunity to experience live theatre.

Position Overview
The ASL Interpreter will provide live interpretation for one designated performance of The Little Mermaid Jr., a 60-minute musical performed by students. The interpreter will be positioned onstage alongside the cast, becoming an integrated part of the storytelling experience.
Key Responsibilities
Performance & Interpretation
- Provide clear, expressive ASL interpretation for a full 60-minute musical performance
- Interpret dialogue, lyrics, and storytelling with strong emotional and character connection
- Adapt interpretation to match pacing, tone, and musicality of the production
- Maintain professionalism in a live, fast-paced performance environment
Collaboration & Preparation
- Collaborate with the director and production team to align interpretation with the show’s vision
- Attend 1 – 2 rehearsals (encouraged) to become familiar with the script, music, and staging
- A digital version of the script will be provided once hired along with a paper copy
- Communicate with staff to ensure proper placement and visibility for audience members
Impact & Inclusion
- Help create an inclusive and accessible theatre experience for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members
- Support RCSA’s mission of making the arts available to all members of the community
Qualifications
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience interpreting live events or performances preferred, but not required
- Ability to convey emotion, character, and musicality through ASL
- Comfortable performing in a visible, onstage role
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
