Raue Center School For The Arts (RCSA) is excited to bring the magic of The Little Mermaid Jr. to life this summer and we’re looking for a creative, energetic, and dedicated Choreographer to join our team!
This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about storytelling through movement, enjoys working with students (ages 7 – 12), and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. The Choreographer will be a daily presence throughout the rehearsal process, supporting both staff and 30 total students while helping shape the overall production.
Important Dates: June 1 – August 2, 2026
- Auditions: June 1 – 5
- Camp Dates: June 8 – August 2 (Monday – Thursday)
- Daily Schedule:
- 8:45 – 9 AM | Drop Off
- 9 AM – 2:15 PM | Camp
- 2:15– 2:30 | Pickup
- Tech Dates: July 19 – July 23
- Show Dates:
- July 24, 25. 31 | August 1 @ 7 PM
- July 25, 26 | August 1, 2 @ 1 PM
- July 30 @ 10 AM (Morning Performance)
- July 26th @ 1 PM will be a sensory friendly performance
Position Overview
The Choreographer will design, teach, and oversee all movement and dance elements for the production. This individual will work closely with the creative team to ensure choreography aligns with the artistic vision while being accessible and engaging for performers of all experience levels. As a consistent and supportive presence each day, the Choreographer plays a key role in building confidence, strengthening performance skills, and fostering a positive rehearsal environment for a cast of 30 students.
Key Responsibilities
Choreography & Creative Development
- Design and create original choreography tailored to The Little Mermaid Jr., including style, storytelling, and musicality
- Adapt choreography to suit a wide range of skill levels (ages 7 – 12)
- Integrate creative and engaging movement that enhances character and story
- Collaborate with the Director and Music Director to align choreography with the overall artistic visionRehearsals & Collaboration
Camp, Rehearsals & Collaboration
- Be present daily throughout the rehearsal process to support students and staff
- Teach choreography clearly and effectively, ensuring understanding and retention
- Coordinate rehearsal schedules with the Director, Stage Manager, Teaching Assistants, and Music Director
- Assist in auditions by teaching a dance combination and helping assess skill levels for casting
- Provide ongoing coaching to improve technique, performance quality, and confidence
- Potential to lead camp activities when not in the rehearsal portion of the camp. This is TBD.
Student Engagement & Support
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment for all students
- Support students at all experience levels, helping each performer grow and succeed
- Maintain strong classroom management and focus during rehearsals
- Encourage teamwork, professionalism, and a strong work ethic
General Responsibilities
- Serve as a collaborative and supportive member of the production team
- Bring positive energy, flexibility, and creativity to each rehearsal day
- Participate in strike immediately following the final performance
- Help maintain a safe and organized rehearsal environmentQualifications
Qualifications
- Strong choreography and teaching experience
- Ability to work with performers of varying skill levels
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Experience in musical theatre dance styles preferred
- Passion for working with young performers and arts education
