Red Theater is seeking a scenic designer for our Fall 2025 world premiere production of The Pilon by Zach Barr, directed by Jessica Love, at The Edge Off Broadway, 1133 W. Catalpa Ave in Edgewater.
Synopsis: In Fall 2019, the market for basketball cards has never been more volatile – mint condition samples sell for five figures, and the selling and buying of cards has become a fraternal pursuit like no other. Caught in the center of this market is Corbin, the co-owner of a Seattle card shop, doing his best to keep the business afloat along with his aunt, Rhonda. But when a transgender teenage boy, Griffey, pulls a potentially game-changing card in the shop, the ensuing scramble to buy and sell it reveals the fissures around why men collect cards in the first place – and how they aim to define themselves as masculine by doing so. A meditation on how we build our identity by following or running from other peoples’ examples, featuring a queer love story, intergenerational trans friendship, characters overhauling their own identities, and the greatest dream of all: Seattle getting an NBA team again. – New Play Exchange
Scenic Designer is responsible for working with the director to develop scenic elements, and collaborating with the production staff and technical director for execution.
Availability Requirements:
- Production Meetings: August, based on availability
- First Rehearsal: Evening of Tuesday 9/2
- Designer Run: Evening of Tuesday 9/30
- Load In: Monday 10/13
- Tech: Tuesday 10/24 thru Tuesday 10/21
- Opening: Friday 10/25
- Strike: Sun 11/23
Design Deliverables Include:
- Preliminary Groundplan: Friday 9/5
- Design Package: Friday 9/26
- Presentation Rendering: Tuesday 9/30 @ Designer Run
