Synopsis:

I’m Gonna Marry You Tobey Maguire
By Samantha Hurley
Directed by Tyler Struble

When sixteen-year-old Shelby Hinkley discovers the internet, she becomes convinced that actor Tobey Maguire is her soulmate. What begins as an innocent teenage obsession quickly spirals into a wildly funny, deeply heartfelt exploration of identity, loneliness, fandom, and the stories we tell ourselves in order to survive adolescence.

Blending Y2K nostalgia, pop culture, fantasy sequences, and sharp humor, I’m Gonna Marry You Tobey Maguire examines what it means to be seen, understood, and loved. Beneath its absurd premise lies a moving coming-of-age story about growing up, letting go, and finding your place in the world.

Refracted Theatre Company is proud to present the Chicago premiere of Samantha Hurley’s acclaimed play as its 2026 Mainstage Production.
