Working to ensure that no Chicago theaterworker suffers alone
The Managing Director is a full time salaried position, reporting to the President and Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. Objectives of the position are to provide day to day management of fundraising, marketing, and communication duties of the organization, to increase awareness of the organization by being the main spokesperson and liaison, to work with the board to assess and address issues affecting the organization, and most importantly, to build and strengthen relationships with all SOC constituencies including Chicago theater, theater practitioners, audiences, grantees and donors.
SOC is dedicated to providing short term financial assistance to Chicagoland theater practitioners, both Equity and non-Equity, impacted by illness, injury or circumstance. Programs of SOC include grant making to theater practitioners through the Biscotto Miller and Malcom Ewen Fund, a grant to The Entertainment Community Fund, and grants to organizations providing direct care to those affected by HIV/AIDS. Fundraising consists of theater audience collections, tax-deductible gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations, special events and the AIDS Walk.
Qualifications and skills sought include experience in establishing a network within the Chicagoland theater community, experience in marketing, social media, public relations and fundraising within the not-for-profit sector, proven project management skills and ability as a self-starter and strong written and verbal communication skills. Skills in Microsoft Office Programs and Google Workspace are also required.
