Show & Tell Productions is seeking a Stage Management team consisting of one Equity Stage Manager and one non-Equity Assistant Stage Manager for We Interrupt This Program, a special two-night theatrical event written by Bill Odenkirk and featuring Bob Odenkirk and Jill Talley.
This is a unique opportunity for experienced stage managers to join a high-profile production and work directly with an accomplished creative team and nationally recognized performers. The Stage Management team will lead the company through rehearsals, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances for an eleven-actor one-act comedy, followed by a four-member panel discussion.
We Interrupt This Program is an original one-act comedy by Bill Odenkirk, writer and producer for The Simpsons and Futurama. The production will be presented as a special engagement at the 1,463-seat Virginia Theatre in Champaign, Illinois, on October 16 and 17, 2026.
The production is operating under the AEA Single Engagement Agreement (Category 2, Tier A). Housing (single-occupant hotel room), travel reimbursement, and per diem will be provided for the Stage Management team for the Champaign dates. The Equity Stage Manager will also receive three days of pro-rated pre-production prep and a Tech Week bonus.
We are looking for organized, collaborative, and confident stage managers who enjoy working in a fast-paced rehearsal room and are comfortable taking ownership of the production process. Experience with comedy, larger casts, complex technical elements, or large theatrical venues is especially welcome.
Job Dates: Oct. 2–17, plus 3 days of prep for SM. Plus 2 optional script workshop days in September.
First Rehearsal: Friday, October 2 (dependent on cast availability)
Rehearsals (Chicago): October 2-4, October 6-9, 2026.
Tech Rehearsals (Champaign): October 13-16, 2026.
Performances: Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17, 2026.
Job Description:
The Stage Management team will work closely with the Producers, Director, Playwright, and Design team to oversee the production from first rehearsal through closing performance. The ideal candidates will be experienced stage managers who are proactive, highly organized, excellent communicators, and comfortable making confident decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Executing the rehearsal schedule in collaboration with the Producing Team and Director
- Sending rehearsal reports and production notices to the Production Team
- Coordinating communication and logistics among the Production Team, creative team, and company
- Managing the rehearsal room, including daily set-up and breakdown as needed
- Collaborating with the Director, Playwright, and Actors throughout the rehearsal process
- Facilitating communication between designers and actors, including costume-related coordination
- Maintaining clear communication and organization across departments
- Stage Manager: Leading the Stage Management team; showcalling and coordinating technical elements including lights, sound, and projections; delegating responsibilities to the Assistant Stage Manager as needed; ensuring the production schedule is in compliance with AEA rules
- Assistant Stage Manager: Supporting the Stage Manager and Production Team throughout rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances; assisting with backstage and company logistics as needed
