The Skokie Park District is seeking a Theatre Specialist for the Summer On Broadway Camp. The Theatre Specialist works cooperatively with staff in the planning and implementation of appropriate activities for ages 7.5-12 in theatre performance skills aimed at showcasing their abilities in a musical theatre production during the final week of each of (2) 4-week camp sessions. The theatre specialist coordinates with music and dance specialists on managing auditions and scheduling rehearsal curriculum. The Theatre Specialist is also responsible for conferring with technical specialists on creative specifications for set, light, costume, sound and prop designs. Additionally the Theatre Specialist works with all staff to provide excellance in safety and fun for campers during all scheduled activities.
Days/Hours: Meets with supervisor to make play selection prior to the end of March. Advance training materials will be sent out and some meetings/discussions will occur in May. These meetings can take place via phone or electronic media. Formal camp training takes place during the weeks of June 3-June 8 and will include about 15-20 hours per week on selected evening and weekend days. The camp program runs June 10-August 2. Staff work hours are generally Monday-Friday 9A-4P with evening performances on July 2, 3, 31 & August 1.
Must be a mature, responsible adult, at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent G.E.D. Prior experience teaching acting and/or directing theatre is required. Prior experience in direction of children’s theatre preferred. Must be responsible, creative and enjoy working with young children ages 7.5 to 12. Prefer candidate who is at a minimum, working toward degree in the theatre, performing arts, or with comparable experience in the field.
