Job Description: TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
AVERAGE Hours – 15 – 20 hrs per week – Mostly evenings and weekends
Large chunks of time free to pursue other activities.
Must be capable of performing simple lighting design and sound technician skills to incoming acts, including children’s shows, cabaret, storytelling, live music of all types, etc.
Basic Function and Responsibility:
Under general supervision, oversee the daily logistics and execution of design, audio/visual and lighting requirements for all Skokie Theatre events.
Work with the Production Team for the Skokie Theatre to implement and plan all shows and performances.
Oversee training of all new technicians and contractors.
Order, purchase (with approval) and maintain all elements of the Skokie Theatre to include lighting, light bulbs, computing equipment, audio, tools, and supplies.
Maintain the storage and cataloging of all technical elements as well as set pieces, props, chairs and tables, inventory of wood and other building supplies.
Maintain the storage garage in a neat and organized fashion at all times.
Maintain sound closet, projection room, upstairs green room, backstage and under-the-stairs storage in a neat and organized fashion at all times.
Represent the Skokie Theatre during theatre tours, outside productions and in all communications with outside performers, designers, directors and technicians. This includes e-mails and phone calls as necessary to obtain technical riders for all incoming shows.
Work with the builder of all shows to utilize inventory of scraps and all building supplies, including paint, lumber, nails, screws etc.
Functional supervision is exercised over part-time staff, outside contractors, student employees and/or students in production crews. This includes find a day for instructing all new technicians and designers.
