Stage Left Theatre is seeking a Musical Director for its upcoming production of the original new work THE DISTRIKT OF LAKE MICHIGUN. The play will be performed in a converted retail space in the Water Tower Place mall. The production is currently set to open the first weekend of February 2025. The production is not a musical, but contains musical aspects that will be best served by the expertise of a Musical Director. This position requires attendance at and leading of periodic rehearsals. The Musical Director will not play for the show, but only rehearse it.
The play: Shortly after the Great Fire, “Captain” George Streeter and his wife Ma are building a utopian community on a sandbar in Lake Michigan right outside the city limits of Chicago. Unfortunately, his ex-wife Minnie is tagging along to set the record straight. Combining elements of Greek tragedy, vaudeville, farce, history play, and Brechtian lehrstucke, this is the outrageous (mostly) true story of how Chicago’s most expensive neighborhood came into existence.
