Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Marketing Associate. execution of Marketing and Communications Department initiatives, and efforts to draw attention to the productions on our stages and expand our audience. This role reports to the Marketing and Memberships Manager, and supports the organization’s single ticket initiatives, membership campaigns, advertising campaigns, digital marketing strategies, and day-to-day departmental administration as needed. The successful candidate will need to have a) Strong project and time management skills; b) Excellent interpersonal, written & verbal communication skills; c) An eye for detail & organization; d) Self-starter with passion & curiosity for marketing, advertising & analytics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Invoice Processing and General Support

  • Provides general support to the department on an ongoing basis including invoicing and budgeting, maintaining departmental archives, scheduling meetings, and more:
    • Process incoming departmental invoices; Ensure vendor records are up-to-date
    • Help maintain departmental budget reconciliation via budget tracking sheets
    • Update and circulate annual GL coding sheet
    • Collaborate with team members and Finance to locate missing invoices and troubleshoot payment issues
    • Complete other financial related tasks as requested
    • Execute additional departmental tasks as needed

Advertising

  • Provide advertising support for single ticket, membership and general branding campaigns:
    • Meet with ad reps; Consider offerings, communicate plans, place advertising insertion orders
    • Traffick ads (Manage ad request in BaseCamp with the design team, route ads for edits and ensure ads are submitted on time)
    • Generate and copywrite other promotional assets for advertising as needed (prep content and layout templates/ references/ideas, social media posts, recommended targeting parameters, unique URLs, QR codes, etc.)
    • Support sales analysis by viewing and interpreting metrics and reporting campaign results
    • Research new advertising outlets to support our efforts to diversify our communication platforms and audiences

Single Ticket, Membership and Other Promotional Support

  • Provide assistance for various campaigns and promotions:
    • Assist in the development and execution of promotional materials, with partner promotions, and at events
    • Lead student ticket promotions
    • Help ideate and execute community outreach initiatives through cultural partnerships and activations, including discount and asset distribution to increase New-to-File patrons and deepen member engagement
    • Prepare and post social media assets and monitor social media activity as needed
    • Build timelines; Coordinate needs with internal team and external vendors to meet deadlines
    • Utilize Basecamp to project manage design requests
    • Submit to the design team; route materials and compile edits; copywrite and editing assistance
    • Create and track ticket vouchers and donations, etc.
    • Support other efforts as programming, goals and needs as they develop

Digital Marketing

  • Assist with the management of steppenwolf.org and execution of organization-wide email communications:
    • Create, update and maintaining website content through Episerver (CMS); Support transition to new website
    • Maintain the email communications calendar and the email platform (WordFly)
    • Lead day-to-day execution of email communications, including building campaigns, route content for copy edits, deploy emails and analyze email performance
    • Align emails with brand voice, aesthetic and grammar
    • Use Tessitura (CRM) to create patron lists and reports
    • Generate e-newsletters and remarketing messages (abandon carts)
    • Build, route, deploy and report on patron surveys through Wufoo

Material + Collateral Distro

  • Ensure the organization and distribution of Steppenwolf marketing materials:
    • Keep track of materials in lobby spaces and refilling as needed, installing on-site show posters, distribute materials to community
    • Maintain departmental and institutional archives
    • Manage select program stuffers and other collateral
    • Monitor lobby spaces re signage and collateral orders/stocking, coordinate external material distribution and tracking

Communications Support

  • Meet Public Relations needs:
    • Assist with the preparation of Press Kits and help distribute press tickets and packets at performances and special events as needed
    • Support on-site interviews and photoshoots for artists and staff
    • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An interest in arts and culture
  • An interest in and entry level experience with marketing/sales, including digital communications
  • Self-starter with passion and curiosity for marketing, advertising & analytics
  • Exceptional project executor, with strong project management and time management skills
  • Detail-oriented and deadline-driven
  • Fantastic collaborator and team player with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience and familiarity with the Chicago theatre community is a plus, but not required

Compensation: Salary range: $39,500 to $42,950 with excellent benefit package for full time employees, including medical, dental, vision, life, and short and long-term disability insurance, critical illness, hospital indemnity, Ventra transit benefit program, employee assistance program and 401(k) matching retirement program. In addition, we offer a generous paid time off package that includes vacation pay, personal days, sick pay, 12 paid holidays and two cultural observance days of your choosing.
