For the first time, Sub Rosa will be hosting a 24 Hour Durational Theatre Play Festival, featuring works by new and burgeoning writers and artists with any level of experience. Learn more about the festival and what we’re looking for below.

Submission Details:
Application Fee: $20 to be Venmoed to @zoe-soteres or CashApped to $zoesoteres (fee can be waived or decreased upon request — just email us at subrosatheatrecollective@gmail.com, no questions asked). Note: submissions without a paid application fee or fee waiver request will not be considered.
What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking one act plays with a maximum run time of 40 minutes that fall within or lean into the realm of Durational Theatre. While your piece doesn’t need to check every box, we are especially interested in work that:
– Is action-oriented with minimal dialogue
– Tackles socio-political (particularly class) issues, directly or indirectly
– Is character-drive
– Embraces hypperrealism and/or naturalism
– Includes a cast size between 1 and 7 people
Please note that we are interested in work from artists of all backgrounds and experience levels, and that no formal training or writing experience is required to submit. Additionally, because Durational Theatre is an evolving form, we’re open to plays that are moving in this direction, even if they don’t perfectly fit every criterion. Selection & Festival Structure:
We will select three plays to be produced. Plays will be selected by Zoé Soteres and Alena Santoyo, who will read and evaluate each play based on artistic and thematic depth, alignment with festival vision, and production feasibility. All plays will be evaluated anonymously.
Selected playwrights will each receive a $50 honorarium. All playwrights will receive an email regarding whether or not they have been selected.
The remaining team (directors, stage managers, cast) will be volunteering their time. Playwrights will collaborate with us to select directors and cast from August 16-30; directors will be selected from the Sub Rosa team, while actors may be Sub Rosa team members or external artists.
Festival Format & Time Commitment:
Rehearsals: 9 AM to 5 PM, September 13, 2025
Performances: Play 1, 6:30pm, September 13, 2025
Play 2, 8pm, September 13, 2025
Play 3, 9:30pm, September 13, 2025
