The House Theatre seeks multiple members for its show crew team, known as Black Rabbits, for productions of The Last Defender and Nova To Lodestar, at a new venue in Chicago, IL.

This is an hourly W2 position ($13/hr) and reports to the Production Department. This is a combination of a technical and patron-facing role that requires evening and weekend availability (with some weekday). This is a part time position, with full-time opportunity (34+hrs). The Last Defender and Nova To Lodestar are an open run productions and we are seeking candidates looking for long-term work.

Show Details
The Last Defender and Nova to Lodestar are live action games combining mechanics of puzzle and escape rooms with theatrical storytelling to create an immersive gaming experience where the player’s choices affect the narrative.

Black Rabbits are responsible for the play-throughs running smoothly. Black Rabbits will respond to production notes and be assigned pre and post show duties. Within the 90-minute experience, Black Rabbits help players navigate the puzzles, making sure the players have a safe and fun time. The Black Rabbits uniform during game time will consist of a black jumpsuit and low-poly rabbit masks.

New hires will train on The Last Defender, and join Nova to Lodestar in a tech process.

Play-throughs will typically run Thursday – Sundays on the following schedule*:

Responsibilities
• Run a track and supervise in-room game play during each play-through
• Assist with pre and post show duties as assigned
• Respond to notes as requested by the Production Department and Designers
• Other duties as assigned
• Learn all puzzle aspects of the games, to provide guidance as needed

Qualifications
• A general understanding of Theatrical Arts and process. Experience within the Chicago theatre community preferred.
• Ability to multitask, think on your feet, and complete daily tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Highly motivated and independent worker
• Desire to work in a collaborative team atmosphere
• A positive attitude and a passion for making great theatre
• Ability to interact with guests in a positive manner
• Experience in carpentry, electrics, properties, costuming, software and/or games (video or board) preferred but not required.
