MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Associate Director of Individual Giving is responsible for managing the Joffrey’s annual campaign with the main focus of soliciting donations from individuals between $1 and $5,000. This includes overseeing the Joffrey’s annual campaign process, including direct appeals, Women’s Board fundraising and cultivation events, donor stewardship including stewardship events, and working as the primary fundraising liaison to the Women’s Board. The Associate Director of Individual Giving is a team leader and actively identifies and develops relationships and pathways that build on the Joffrey’s current successes and enables future programs and initiatives which support the Joffrey’s commitment to diversity, accessibility, and artistic excellence in performances & productions, training & education, and community engagement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Partner with the Director of Individual Giving to develop and execute fundraising strategies and timelines.
• Support the Director of Individual Giving to meet the annual fund revenue goal from individual donors through a compelling year-round annual campaign. Design and implement direct mail, email, and digital campaigns targeting individuals at various giving levels.
• Oversee activities with the Joffrey’s Women’s Board, and provide guidance around the fundraising strategy, especially concerning annual giving and special event fundraising.
• Manage annual gift solicitations of donors up to $5,000 including Women’s Board members analyzing data to drive strategic decisions for growth in the annual fund.
• Work with the Director of Individual Giving to identify potential mid-level donors $5,000 to $24,999.
• Ensure that donor recognition, benefits, and activations are executed.
• In collaboration with the Director of Development Operations, ensure the maintenance of accurate donor contact information, solicitation, and stewardship plans in Tessitura.
• Ensure smooth and efficient operating functions, working closely with each department within the organization to establish supportive and productive relationships.
• Execute the acknowledgement process to ensure communications are sent out in a timely manner and donors are thanked appropriately.
• In collaboration with Director of Development Operations, gain maximum value from the database using screening, research, and analytics; recommend and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective database management.
• Manage annual campaign and additional events as needed, including the execution of Joffrey Circle Salons.
• Represent the Joffrey at performances and events.
• Manage the Annual Giving Manager by providing direction and support for fundraising initiatives and events related to the annual fund and Women’s Board.
• Collaborate with the Associate Director of Events to develop strategy for stewardship and cultivation events that engage the Joffrey family, connecting them in a meaningful way to the organization; provide oversight of the execution for fulfilling donor benefits for individuals and corporate stakeholders.
• Appropriately and actively delegate responsibilities to the Annual Giving Manager.
• Provide the Annual Giving Manager with strategic guidance, support, and professional development and focus on advancing their leadership skills, fundraising expertise, and donor relationship management to help achieve annual fundraising goals and foster a culture of philanthropy.
• Stay abreast of developments in philanthropy and fund development, as well as the general fields of management and the not-for-profit sector.
• Assist in Advancement team activities as needed to achieve the Joffrey’s fundraising goals.
• Demonstrate consistent involvement and a continuous dedication to expanding inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility at the Joffrey.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS INLCUDE: 3-4 years of related development and board management experience plus relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent skill and experience. Must have a proven track record of accomplishment and success in fundraising in arts and culture organizations. Experience leading and delegating to others. Must have an exceptional ability to speak and write persuasively with donors and prospective donors about the needs and goals of The Joffrey Ballet. A proven self-starter with the ability to make decisions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Must be knowledgeable about Chicago’s institutional funding community and embrace opportunities to learn. Excellent strategic, technical, organizational, and computer skills required. Must be professional, detail-oriented, and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient knowledge and proven experience using Tessitura. Deep commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access is required.

WORK SCHEDULE: Weekly hours will generally be within the range of 8:30am to 5pm Monday through Friday, with evening and weekend hours as required for performances, meetings, special events, and to meet deadlines.

APPLICABLE PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES: General mobility in office areas. Local travel required. Ability to operate data processing and other office equipment. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Prolonged periods of standing during events. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
