Assistant Technical Director
The award-winning Theatre of Western Springs (TWS) is a 97-year-old community theater with year-round theatrical programming for children and adults. The Theatre of Western Springs, Chicagoland’s leading community theatre, seeks a full-time Assistant Technical Director to help us build our new future.
Position: Assistant Technical Director (ATD)
Reports to: Technical Director
Hours: Full-Time
Salary: $40,000/year
Start Date: August 1, 2025
Summary:
The Assistant Technical Director (ATD) supports the Technical Director in executing the technical elements of productions at the Theatre of Western Springs and ensuring a smooth and safe production process. The ATD also plays a key role in technical educational programming and supports volunteers and technical crews at TWS and CTWS.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Technical Director in coordinating and implementing technical aspects for productions.
- Estimate, order, and pick up materials for construction and technical needs.
- Communicate regularly with production crew chairs to ensure that crews are on track and have the necessary materials and resources.
- Support crew chairs in scheduling and booking volunteer crews.
- Act as the production tech point of contact from the mid-production meeting on.
- Coordinate cleanups and organization of building technical areas.
- Participate in professional networking and development convenings as needed
The following duties are shared with the TWS Technical Director
- Create, promote, and oversee technical open houses to the community for recruiting and outreach
- Teach CTWS technical classes
- Lead AT annual chairs and appropriate CT parents in training volunteers in technical areas and skills
- Work with CT students and parents to ensure successful productions
- Fabricate/build specialty construction pieces for TWS and CTWS productions
- Prep materials for crew calls
- Attend production meetings and technical rehearsals as needed
- Supervise or delegate supervision of CTWS students in technical areas
- Supervise crews during construction and other calls
- Supervise production strikes
