Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, seeks a full-time Membership Associate to join TCG’s Membership Department, which serves over 700 organizational members and 4,000 individual members. The Membership Associate will support department retention, recruitment, and engagement efforts and serves as the primary communications liaison for the organization’s frontline support.

About the Department

The Membership Department currently includes three full-time staff members: the Director of Membership, the Membership Manager, and the Membership Associate. This team works together to cultivate organizational and individual membership programs and ensure high levels of member engagement and satisfaction. The team develops and implements plans on membership retention and recruitment, and works with TCG executive leadership, programming and marketing staff, and board committees to increase member engagement. The department serves as the front line of communication for the organization at large and is responsible for managing and maintaining TCG’s primary CRM database and ecommerce presence on the TCG website. Additionally, the team manages TCG’s Theatre Leader Connectedness (TLC) program, which brings together theatre leadership at TCG Member Theatres for regular cohort meetings to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the field.

Key Responsibilities

Member Services and Administration

●      Serve as the primary point of contact for TCG members by overseeing the Member Services main phone line and the general membership email inbox (info@tcg.org).

●      Provide timely, professional support for member inquiries related to benefits, renewals, and general organizational information.

●      Process and apply all incoming membership payments within the TCG database (iMIS), ensuring accurate financial record-keeping.

●      Maintain the integrity of the Member Theatre data, including staff roster management and contact updates.

●      Activate and onboard all new Member Theatres, leading the welcome process and orientation.

Engagement, Recruitment, and Outreach

●      Actively support annual member recruitment and renewal campaigns through direct outreach and administrative coordination.

●      Conduct proactive research of regional markets and prospective theatres, with a specific focus on Black, Indigenous, Theatres of Color (BITOC), Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) theatres, and Disability-Community theatres.

●      Assist with the administration of the Theatre Leader Connectedness (TLC) program, including serving as the administrative liaison for the Budget Group 1 & 2 calls.

●      Contribute to ongoing member engagement and satisfaction initiatives.

Departmental Operations

●      Provide general administrative support to the department, ensuring efficient operation and goal achievement.

●      Assist with other cross-departmental projects as needed to support TCG’s overall mission.

Ideal Candidates Will Have

We seek a detail-oriented, service-minded professional with a passion for the arts and a commitment to TCG’s mission. The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years of experience in membership or customer support, demonstrating strong organizational skills and the ability to manage complex data in a fast-paced environment. Adaptability and excellent communication are essential for serving as the primary liaison between TCG and its diverse membership base. The ability to interact with staff at all levels while remaining proactive, resourceful, and efficient is essential to success and growth within this role. We are seeking a candidate with a basic understanding of our deep curiosity about the not-for-profit theatre sector.

●      An administrative background, with one to three years of experience in membership coordination/engagement or customer service, preferably within an arts organization or service-oriented field. Familiarity with issues affecting the non-profit theatre community—for both institutions and individual practitioners—is highly desired.

●      Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating a patient and empathetic approach to member support.

●      Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, with the ability to balance both ongoing day-to-day work and longer-term departmental projects.

●      Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

●      Openness to navigating organizational and industry change, demonstrating adaptability and a forward-thinking attitude to identify new pathways for departmental growth.

●      Proven proficiency utilizing a Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) database (experience with iMIS, or similar systems, is a strong plus).

●      Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Word, and SharePoint.

●      Proficiency in Google Suite, including Drive, Docs, and Calendar.

●      Experience using project management tools such as Asana is a plus.

●      Dedication and commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive environments, working effectively across various identities, including gender expression, race, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class, and immigrant status.

●      Comfort working both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment.

●      Passion for theatre and the performing arts, either through professional or personal engagement.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $52,000 – $55,000 per year. TCG offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage; an Employee Assistance Program; Short- and Long-Term Disability; two weeks of vacation; and additional paid time off.
