Website Theatre Y

Theatre Y is seeking a stage manager for our Winter/Spring production of Elfriede Jelinek’s CHARGES (The Supplicants), running from February 26- April 12.

CHARGES, Directed by Melissa Lorraine and Héctor Álvarez, is a tour de force by the Nobel Prize winning writer, which “offers a powerful analysis of the plight of refugees, from ancient times to the present, in which she responds to the immeasurable suffering among those fleeing death, destruction and political suppression in their home countries.” Though Jelinek’s text originally spoke to the multiple immigration crises in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, Theatre Y’s production sets its sights squarely on modern day America, to Chicago’s own neighborhoods which bristle with those ready to tear residents from their newfound homeland.

Though a play, Jelinek’s text is distinctly non-traditional, composed of long paragraphs that the company will divide through devised practice. It will present the opportunity to be involved in a unique process as we discover how to present the text together.

Our cast is all ages, so the ability to work with teens and tweens is a plus.

Rehearsals run from January 12th through February 25th, Mondays through Thursdays from 6-10 and Saturdays from 11-6. Tech rehearsals run from February 17-25, Monday through Friday at 6-10 and Saturday to Sunday from 11-7.
